Australia’s perfect record through the first four Test matches of the 2025-27 cycle keeps them well clear as the race for the 2027 World Test Championship final takes shape. The Proteas remain in second, with a commanding series win against India adding to their impressive home run in the competition. And they have a strong chance to finish at the top, needing just 41 points from their remaining eight away Tests.

WTC 2025-27 two best teams at the end of the 71-match cycle qualify for the final. The ICC uses a system of percentage points, where a team gets 12 points for each victory and 4 for a draw. This prevents teams playing more than six series gaining an unfair advantage, with the ICC also using tiebreakers to separate teams at the end of the cycle.

Defeat in Guwahati has put India’s hopes of reaching the final in the mud, leaving Gautam Gambhir’s side fifth in the points table and almost no room for further bad series losses in the remaining nine fixtures. And while they have a number of key fixtures at home in the coming months, a big improvement may not be enough to halt their slide down the rankings.

Pakistan are in third place after a strong start to their season, and they have the opportunity to take over from Australia at the top of the table when they play their home series against England next month. The two top teams at the end of the 71-match schedule qualify for the final, and the ICC has a set of tiebreakers to determine the final ranking, starting with total series wins then comparing away match winning percentage before using official Test rankings to separate teams occupying identical percentage positions.
